Being Decisive

Over the past ten years, I have been trying to determine where I wanted to live. After a couple of false starts and many days — years, really — of contemplation, I finally made a decision.

It is interesting how much energy making a decision can take. The process can feel heavy, uncertain, and even overwhelming. However, once the decision is made, it is remarkable how quickly that weight lifts.

Now that I have chosen a place to live, I feel a deep sense of excitement about settling into my new community. There is no doubt in my mind that this is the right choice. That certainty did not come easily, but it makes the journey feel worthwhile.

Taking the time to think through a major decision matters. As someone who is typically very decisive, I found myself struggling with this one. Looking back over the past decade, I can see that waiting was the right call. When the moment finally came to choose, I felt a clarity and confidence that had not been there before.

This experience has taught me that it is important to give ourselves both time and grace when facing big decisions — while also recognizing when the time has come to act. Waiting too long can be just as limiting as acting too quickly.

I have come to see decisions as part of an ongoing process rather than a single defining moment. Even if a choice turns out to be wrong, it simply leads to the next decision. In this way, no decision is ever truly final. Fear of making the wrong choice can hold us back, but inaction is a decision in itself. Choosing not to act shapes our lives just as much as any deliberate step forward.

Ultimately, decisions are less about perfection and more about movement. They guide us, teach us, and help us grow. By trusting ourselves, allowing time for reflection, and having the courage to act when the moment arrives, we can move forward with confidence — knowing that each choice is simply part of a larger journey.

Is something blocking you?
